Class Description

This project is labor-intensive and is best suited for students who are experienced turners.
It usually takes about 30 hours to
complete; most of the time is spent power carving and sanding.

Day 1 - Make a spherical chuck to accept a 4" sphere

Day 2 - Make a 4" sphere using a template. Lay out 12 equally
spaced points.

Day 3 - Mount the sphere in the chuck, drill past the center, turn
the outer surface, hollow inside area. Layout design and begin
removing negative space with the power carver using burrs.

Day 4 - Complete negative space removal and begin to power
sand and hand sand.

Final sanding will likely not be complete on day 4. Most of the
final sanding is hand sanding that can be done at home.

Tools to be used:
bowl gouge
spindle gouge
parting tool
1 1/8" forstner bit
hollowing tool
micro power carver
burrs and micro drum sander

Please bring any of the above listed tools you possess. TLC also has tools which can be borrowed.
